During February 2021, Good Samaritan has benefited from two sizable food drives. The ADM Middle School and Middle School Student Council held food drives early in the month that provided over 783 pounds of food to the Pantry. Teachers Sara Huston and Kim Timmerman helped to coordinate the drives and deliver the food. They also toured the Pantry and saw where the 120 school backpacks are assembled each week for kids in the elementary, intermediate, middle and high schools who need them over the weekend.

In mid-February, Good Samaritan received over 500 pounds of donated food from the West Des Moines Lutheran Church of Hope “souper bowl” food drive. In addition, the Pantry loaned its van and a volunteer to Hope to deliver a total of 1,500 pounds of additional food to the Stuart Food Pantry, 100 Acres Child Care Center in DeSoto and Children’s and Family Services in Des Moines. Good Samaritan is blessed to receive these important in-kind gifts of food, especially during these winter months and the pandemic.
